Ask AI is a floating prompt box for a quick question, a lookup, or a small
task, without switching windows or opening a browser. It can also search the
web or run a Deep Research query with cited sources.
Open it
Press ⌃ ⌥ K from any app.
How it works
Open the panel
Press ⌃ ⌥ K anywhere. An Ask AI panel
floats up without stealing focus from your current window. Drag it by
the grip to reposition.
Ask
Type anything (a question, a quick task, a lookup) and press
↩.
Copy the answer
The answer renders as Markdown — headings, lists, and code blocks with a
copy button. Copy the whole answer with one click.
Web search
Latch the globe icon in the composer to answer from a live web search.
The answer includes numbered, clickable source links.
Deep Research
Latch the magnifier icon for a Deep Research query. This reads multiple
sources, takes longer (up to several minutes), and returns a cited answer
with a full source list.
Deep Research costs 10 credits per use (Pro only). Check Usage for
your current balance.
Attaching images
Paste an image, drag one in, or click the attachment button to ask about a
picture. Click any attached image to open it full size.
Keep questions short and specific for the best results. For image questions
with follow-ups, try Image Ask instead. Privacy
Only the text (and any attached image) you type is sent, and only when you
press ↩. Web search and Deep Research queries go through the Dax
backend.
